Volunteer motivated by seeing woman “Get It”

Amber and Shalonda

When Deana was asked why she tutors at CWJC, she replied, “I tutor because I enjoy working with the ladies; I like to see when they “get it” and know they can do something they haven’t done before (or don’t remember doing!).” She also stated that she “loves to hear when the women are ready to move on and go onto something bigger than themselves.”

Deana is a married mother of two who resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee. She attends Long Hollow Baptist Church, and has been volunteering with Christian Women’s Job Corp for two years. Deana has been extremely helpful with the program in many capacities including tutoring, mentoring, and instructing classes in the Life and Job Skills Program. She has also helped facilitate and manage the Madison location while the satellite coordinator was out on maternity leave.

To Deana, CWJC offers “opportunity for growth, improvement, and hope, with support of tutors and mentors for a group of women who may not be able to accomplish their goal of obtaining the GED alone.  CWJC is a support system with goals!” It is very apparent that Deana is passionate and cares about her work with CWJC, and she cares about the women as well. She is truly an asset and also a blessing to this program.
