I Saw The Rainbow Like Noah

The Tennessee flood of 2010 shifted the lives of many; and one person deeply affected was Beatriz. Beatriz is a 35-year old Christian Women’s Job Corp student that resides in Madison with her husband and two children. Beatriz and her family were victims of the devastating flood that swept Nashville in May. As one could imagine, this flood not only displaced her physically, but it displaced her mentally and spiritually as well.

Because Beatriz lost her home, she and her family had no choice but to return to her native country of Mexico. The Lord led her to a scripture that really resonated with her in her time of despair: Psalms 127:1 “If God doesn’t build the house, the builders only build shacks. If God doesn’t build the city, the night watchmen might as well nap.” This verse helped Beatriz realize that all of her worldly possessions were just that: worldly items that could be replaced. She discovered that her most important gifts were the Lord, her faith, and her family. “I started to lack desire, but once I read that scripture, I realized that Christian Women’s Job Corp was a major opportunity and obtaining my GED is very important to me.” Beatriz has come back and joins us every week at the Madison location, eager and ready to learn. Despite going through a tragic situation, Beatriz always comes to class with a smile on her face, proving to us all, that she, like Noah, saw the rainbow after the flood.
