Last summer, we began a new program in Madison to offer men something. So many of our CWJC women have men in their lives with needs that aren’t being addressed in the communities where they live.

While there is a definite need for a men’s GED program in Madison, funding hasn’t been raised for that as of yet. So last summer, we decided to offer men a jobs skill program called Jobs for Life. This is a Bible-based curriculum that teaches soft skills – those skills that every employer wishes their employees had like dependability, integrity, etc. We teach that you bring certain things to employers that are far more valuable than being able to weld or drive a nail or other skills that employers can train employees to do.

We graduated 11 men in our first class. Only one found employment.

While this was discouraging to our volunteers, they wanted to try the classes again because at least one of our participants surrendered his life to Christ as a result of those first classes.

Our second class is almost complete. We have six men, and all six of them have jobs – including two men who have serious felonies in their past!

Last week, a 56-year-old man who had spent 30 years in jail was offered a job! He was our last one to gain employment.

The previous week he had been working a labor intensive job for a temp agency and told me his body could no longer take that kind of physical stress. We rounded up our prayer warriors and specifically prayed that God would bring this man a job. In no less than four days, our prayers were answered!

What appeared to be an impossible task was accomplished by a faithful God. And this man knows that it was God who worked for him and he is singing His praises and stronger in His faith as a result.
