In 2005, Cassandra appreciated the advice from her enthusiastic friend, Linda, and contacted CWJC. Inspired by Linda’s success after graduating CWJC, Cassandra enrolled in computer and GED preparation classes with an “I can do this attitude.” The program provided childcare, tutoring, mentoring, and bible studies. The services included everything she needed to complete the course. So, she decided “no excuses, no giving up” this time. Cassandra, a teen mother, dropped out of high school but she always hoped to complete her education. In her thirties, married with three children, Cassandra still wanted a diploma.
Even though she had a Day Care business, she knew that additional skills and education would bring more opportunities. Cassandra received more than technical and communication skills at CWJC. She enriched her spiritual life through prayer, bible study, and soulful relationships with her mentor, Lauren, and Ms. Becky, Executive Director. Cassandra remembered a heartfelt evening after bible study as a turning point. She said, “I made a real connection with the Lord.” Like many girls and women with a troubled past, Cassandra came to CWJC with broken dreams, limited goals, and problems with “just trying to make it.”
Since her accomplishments at CWJC, she learned that God restores broken dreams, gives you the desires of your heart, and offers abundant life. Cassandra spreads the word about blessings from God with her praise-dancing group, AWOW (Anointed Women of Worship). Her teen-aged daughters join her in dance performances. This is a ministry work that “ the Lord put on my heart,” Cassandra said. She continues to promote CWJC as a means for women to conceive new dreams. Volunteering with CWJC gives Cassandra the opportunity to plan events for graduates. She hopes to connect with former students at the upcoming reunion in November and share stories of their victories. Cassandra’s long-term goal is to open a restoration home for women.
